As a simple guide, good boots should provide sufficient grip and support, and feel as comfortable at the end of the day as when you first put them on. The wrong boots, however, will leave you with sore, aching feet and possibly bruised toes and blisters too.
Footwear should also be comfortable, durable and suited to the activity being undertaken. Used with the right socks, footwear should keep the feet dry and at a comfortable temperature too.
When hiking, choose boots that are designed to support the load you expect to be carrying. The heavier your load, the more support you will need.
