The midsole of many running shoes, begins to break down around 400 miles. When looking to buy shoes, DO NOT determine the life of your shoe by the remaining tread on the sole. Once the midsole breaks down, the shoe offers little or no defence against injury.
Things to Consider when Buying Athletic Shoes:-
- The Fit - Your shoes should not put any pressue on any part of your foot. There should always be a little extra room that allows you to slide around.
- The Arch Support - Depending on your arches you may need custom orthotic inserts for proper support.
- The Cushion - Shoes need to absorb the shock as you land. Too firm will feel like running on cement and too soft will cause instability.
- Good shoes will feel right instantly. If they feel weird, forget about it.
- Favorite Shoe - If you've found a shoe that works, stick with it. If you can no longer find your shoe, look for one with simliar traits.
- Ignore the Look - DO NOT purchase your shoe based on how it looks. Your shoe needs to offer support and be comfortable.
